This 1 Thing: Serum I Use To Get Smoother And Sexier Legs
You ever used a beauty product and it worked so well that you had to tell your friends and family about it ASAP? “This 1 Thing” is a bi-weekly series where I review one thing that I’ve tried and you’ll probably become obsessed with it, too.
My long legs are one of my most complimented body features, but it took me a very long time to love them. Growing up in the south where thicker, curvier body shapes are considered the standard of beauty, my lanky stems didn’t fit that profile. The teeny-tiny scars and bumps left behind from falls or shaving and depilatory cream mishaps made my darker skin uneven and this drew harsher criticism.
Thankfully, I grew less clumsier and figured out that waxing was a much better alternative for hair removal. But I still struggled with having a bumpier texture.
I tried everything from exfoliating cloths and mitts to moisturizing butters and oils and chemical exfoliants. However, nothing seemed to last as long as I’d hope. So when I heard and saw results from the new exfoliating treatment by Topicals, I had to get it on my legs.
Slather is touted as a “milky body serum that exfoliates textured skin including KP [keratosis pilaris], dry patches, bumps, strawberry skin and flakiness for soft touch skin.” This may sound like a lofty claim, but once you read the ingredients label and see before-and-after photos, you’ll understand why the brand and its users stand by this declaration.
It’s formulated with retexturizing ingredients retinol, urea, lactic and glycolic acids that also help to brighten dark spots and treat hyperpigmentation. The squalene and glycerin work to replenish moisture loss as those dead skin cells break down.
What I like… The creamy consistency of Slather makes it ideal for applying post-shower or bath. It glides beautifully onto the skin, and layers well with my current fave body butter and mist by Kopari Beauty. This sensorial experience also motivates me to not rush and really focus on giving my body just as much attention as I do my face and neck area.
While I highly recommend doing a patch test before applying all over, I found that Slather was gentle enough to use on my legs, along my bikini line and even underarms.
I gave Slather a full summer test run and found that after just 14 days of consistent application at least three times a week, the skin on my body was smoother and hyperpigmentation on my calves had started to gradually fade. This dramatic transformation gave me even more confidence to step outside wearing biker shorts and mini skirts and dresses.
What could be better… You’ve got to be extremely careful when dispensing Slather from the tube because it comes out fast and furious! My hack for this is to make sure that the bottle is slightly tilted and gently press until I get a nickel-sized amount for each leg.
The not-a-smell-smell was initially a bit peculiar but that didn’t linger once the product melted into my skin and I applied fragrance. And yes, I wear fragrance to bed!
